I’ll admit it — I’m completely obsessed with gold. Always have been. There’s just something about the way it feels warm, timeless, and quietly confident that gets me every time. 💛
Gold’s been around forever (literally billions of years), and the more I’ve worked with it, the more I’ve fallen in love with it. So here are ten crazy, beautiful, sometimes unexpected facts about gold — and why it’s one of my absolute favourite materials to work with.

Personalised Gold Bar Necklace
1. Gold is ancient — like, older than Earth ancient 🌍
Scientists think the gold we use today came from supernova explosions that happened before our planet even existed. When Earth formed, tiny specks of gold were trapped inside its crust — so every piece of gold jewellery is, in a way, cosmic treasure.
2. It’s one of the most stable materials on the planet 💪
Gold doesn’t tarnish, rust, or corrode — ever. That’s why the gold rings found in ancient tombs still look incredible thousands of years later. When you buy solid gold, you’re buying something that’s truly built to last.
3. Almost all the gold ever mined is still around today ⭐️
Because it’s so durable, gold just keeps being melted down and reshaped into new things. The gold in your necklace could’ve once been part of a Roman coin or an old family heirloom — how cool is that?
4. Gold is naturally yellow (and that’s actually really rare) 💛
Most metals are silvery-grey, but gold’s unique atomic structure makes it reflect warm yellow light. That’s what gives it that unmistakeable glow — the kind you can spot a mile off in the sunlight.

5. Pure gold is super soft ✨
24ct gold bends and scratches easily — which is why most jewellery is made from 9ct or 18ct gold. Mixing it with other metals makes it stronger, without losing that rich, golden colour.
6. It’s incredibly dense ✌️
Gold might look delicate, but it’s surprisingly heavy for its size. That’s one of the reasons it feels so satisfying to wear — that tiny weight on your hand or neck that quietly says, yep, I’m real.
7. You can stretch one gram of gold into a two-kilometre thread 🤯
It’s that malleable. Gold can be hammered so thin it becomes translucent — which is why it’s been used in art, architecture, and design for centuries. Think ancient temples, picture frames, and of course… jewellery.
8. Gold is hypoallergenic 🥰
Unlike some plated or mixed-metal jewellery, solid gold won’t irritate sensitive skin. So if you’re like me and live in your jewellery 24/7, it’s the dream.
9. Gold is endlessly recyclable ♻️
Every single bit of gold can be melted down and reused without losing quality. Whether it’s an old heirloom reborn into a new design, or gold reclaimed from scrap, it’s sustainability done right.
10. There’s gold in your body (and in space!) 🪐
Yep — the average human has about 0.2 milligrams of gold in their body, mostly in their blood. And beyond Earth? NASA’s even coated spacecraft in gold because it reflects radiation and heat so well.

The more I learn about gold, the more I realise why it’s been treasured for so long. It’s resilient, beautiful, and dependable — everything I want my jewellery to be.
When I launched my Golden Era Collection, it was more than just a new range. It was a milestone — celebrating 10 years of Homebird Jewellery, and everything this little business has grown into. Solid gold felt like the perfect way to mark that.

These pieces were designed to last, to tell stories, and to celebrate moments — big or small. Whether it’s a ring that marks a milestone, or a pendant that reminds you of who you’ve become, I hope it becomes part of your golden era too.
