A Wedding to Remember: Crafting Rings for My Oldest Friend đź’Ť

A Wedding to Remember: Crafting Rings for My Oldest Friend đź’Ť

This week, I had the absolute joy of watching one of my oldest friends, R, marry her wonderful partner, K. And it was a moment I’ll never forget because they exchanged rings that I had the honour of creating just for them.

When R first asked me to make their wedding rings, I couldn’t have said yes fast enough! Crafting jewellery that tells a story is at the heart of Homebird Jewellery, but when it’s for a friend, there’s an extra layer of meaning. The stakes feel even higher, and every design choice—every detail—takes on an almost sacred importance. So, with love, excitement, and just a few nerves, I dove right in!

Designing Rings with a Story

The process was an intimate one. R and K came over for a brew and to chat about the styles they loved, the elements that felt uniquely “them”, and the meaning they wanted their rings to hold. R chose a sleek and classic D-shape profile with a beautiful star-set diamond, balancing timeless simplicity with a subtle sparkle. K preferred a slim, rectangular band with a brushed finish, accented with polished edges that catch the light and give unique and modern feel. We added their wedding date on the inside of each band (of course!) as a lasting reminder of this beautiful and special day.

I've known them since their love story began, back when K was just "that boy" that R used to fill me in on their dates back in art school. Being able to witness them exchange these rings felt like watching a story come full circle. It’s moments like these that remind me why I’m so passionate about crafting pieces that are more than just jewellery. They’re keepsakes, storytellers, and symbols of love, all in one.

Why Choose Custom Wedding Rings?

There are thousands of pre-made wedding rings out there, many of which are stunning. But when you choose custom, it adds an entirely new layer to the meaning of your rings. Each detail is yours to decide, from the profile and finish to the personal touches, like a special engraving or a gemstone. Instead of choosing something that simply looks beautiful, you get to create something that feels like a part of your story, uniquely yours in every way.

Over the years, I’ve worked with couples who have included engraved dates, meaningful quotes, stones with specific symbolism, and even referencing inside jokes they share. These choices not only create a beautiful ring but also a lasting reminder of the journey you’re embarking on together.

Interested in Commissioning Your Own Wedding Rings?

If you're considering custom rings for your own wedding, I’d love to chat! My process is personal and relaxed. We’ll sit down together (in person if you're local or virtually) to discuss your ideas, preferences, and the story you want your rings to tell. From there, I’ll share design sketches or concepts until we find the perfect fit for you.

The process usually takes several weeks from start to finish, as every piece is carefully crafted by hand with attention to detail. I work with sterling silver and solid gold, but we can explore other materials as well, depending on your style and budget.

How to Get Started

Getting started with a custom piece is as simple as reaching out! If you're interested, feel free to email me at jessica@homebirdjewellery.com or fill out the contact form on my website here, and let’s talk ideas! I’m here to help, whether you have a clear vision or need a bit of guidance in bringing your ideas to life.

Thank you for letting me share this story with you. Being part of R and K’s big day was a true gift, and I'm reminded of how grateful I am to craft jewellery that carries such meaning. Every ring, every pendant, every piece tells a story, and if I can help tell yours, I’d be honoured.
